Photo Diary: Creatures in the Valley of Fire

During my day trip from Las Vegas to the Valley of Fire back in December, my friend Julie and I spent the day checking out a bunch of different trails and areas that the park had to offer.  While doing this, we stumbled upon a couple of common creature sightings native to that area.  The first sighting happened not long after we made our way into the park.  We noticed that a van had pulled over to the side of the road and was starring at something, so we looked to our left and noticed a few big horn sheep making their way along on the other side of the road.  Our next sighting was on the Elephant Rock trail.  Julie and I were just walking along and talking when a couple a way ahead of us motioned for us to be quite.  We were kind of just like what the hell, but then noticed a couple more big horn sheep just hanging out on some nearby rocks trying to soak up some sun and then realized shit it’s a good thing they told us to be quite because who knows if these things would charge.  The last creature sighting Julie and I had was of a little ground antelope squirrel at the Cabins.  This little guy looked like a fat little chipmunk, and we decided to call him Fred.  We spotted a few other Fred look-a-likes on some of the other trails as well, but Fred was the only one that stuck around us to let us take his picture.  He was seriously so cute, I wish he didn’t end up running away, but sadly he did.
